This took place at the Village hall opposite the church on Shrove Tuesday. It followed the same pattern as the previous year when we had been raising money for the church in general.
Pancakes with a variety of toppings were on sale together with hot drinks or juice. We had a good raffle and a home-made cake stall. Small tables were set out in the Hall with chairs, a table cloth and some early daffodils on each. A children’s corner was also arranged with a range of activities available.
Having opened at 12 noon, we were relieved to see customers arriving at 12.15pm; we were then consistently busy until close to 4.00pm. We had a little panic in the kitchen when we ran out of batter in the midst of a rush. Supporters hurried off to procure more supplies of eggs and flour! Demand was met after a brief delay. At least 70 people bought and ate pancakes while chatting animatedly with friends and family. Some remarked that it was great to hear that “buzz” as they entered the Hall. Many people remarked it had been good to meet old friends and acquaintances and catch up with their news. All our cakes were sold. The raffle was called towards the end and winners not present had their prizes delivered the next day. £328.00 was raised, a really good start to our fundraising campaign.
