December Newsletter 2018

Dear All

Again apologies that this is rather late for the beginning of the month.

The Lighters’ gig on Nov.24thwas really enjoyed by the people attending- at the end of the night the whole audience was on its feet dancing the night away! Huge thanks go first and foremost to the band themselves who performed royally throughout, reminding many of us of younger days. I was amazed at how many pop song words came to mind and, on my request, their encore was “You’re  so vain” originally by Carly Simon. The Lighters charged us no fee- they performed in aid of our church repair funds and I hope we can secure their services again, (but not necessarily without a fee!) We were somewhat disappointed by the turnout but made £123.00 overall on the night. Many thanks also go to those who decorated the hall, (they also took the décor down on Sunday afternoon), made the sausage rolls and cakes and served it along with soft drinks.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 5 December, we host our Christmas social for the village in the Village Hall from 2.30pm. Come along to enjoy some complimentary Christmas food, music and chat as well as perhaps, a board game or two. There will be a Children’s Christmas Lucky Dip and other activities and we hope it will be a fun afternoon for all. If you know of anyone without transport wishing to come, please don’t hesitate to phone me (01263 577794) and they can be collected.

Our plans for 2019 have developed and the plan at present looks like this:

Jan. 19th: Saturday Brunch in Village Hall from 10.30am- everyone welcome.

Shrove Tuesday: Pancake Day celebration

Date TBC in Feb. Folk and Friends Concert in All Saints Church

Late Match/ Early April: Concert in All Saints by a local School Choir

Spring: A Gardeners’ afternoon: a talk, followed by questions to a panel of local experts; other items may be added to this

May 19thSunday: Gresham Picnic on the Park

June (hopefully): Tale Dolce Musica return to give us another wonderful concert of Baroque music.

July 20thSaturday: Classic Car Show and Craft Fair- our major event of the year

Later in the year we hope to have a concert by The Shantymen and other events in the Autumn.

Further and exact details will be published as these events are finalised, but from January, all this information will be posted on our website:

The HLF bid still proves challenging, but we have the deadline of January 18th  2019, firmly in our minds. A PCC meeting later today will decide which builder to appoint, another step forward.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year? I hope to do it in person tomorrow at the Village Hall for the Christmas Social… do come if you can, you are bound to meet friends.

Best wishes

Julia D
