Friends of All Saints Gresham February 2019 newsletter:
The HLF Bid was submitted on January 14th2019. Helen, our Treasurer, and I went to our Architect’s, Ruth Blackman’s, office to send it off and were very grateful for the help of Ruth herself and her amazingly efficient PA, to do so successfully. Helen and I are both satisfied that we had done everything we could to make the bid as good as it could be, but recognised that we would be up against many others, who think likewise. And of course, we have no idea how much money the Lottery has in its pot to allocate at any one time. Since then, we have been given a Grants Officer’s name and contact details for her: she will be the Assessor of the bid and may be in touch with me to ask questions. We can contact her if we wish. The whole process is expected to take eight weeks. I will update you as and when.
Our January Brunch was really successful: we were busy serving full English Breakfasts, or bacon/sausage/egg baps and so on, from 10.30am until we closed just after 1.00pm. We used the smaller sunnier Committee room for our café and it was buzzing with chat most of the morning. It was lovely to see villagers and their friends and families as well as other residents within the benefice and new faces too, tucking in to our fare. Our takings topped £180.00, a very satisfying start to the new fundraising year, so much so that we are thinking of repeating the event after the summer.
Preparations for events later in the year will dominate our work in February, but March brings three occasions when The Friends of All Saints would like to welcome you again. First, there is achange of date for the Folk and Friends Concert in All Saints Church, Gresham: Saturday 9thMarch, one week later than previously advertised. There will be no entry charge. A similar Concertwas held last year, involving local musicians, singers, a storyteller, some poetry and so on. Starting at 7.30pm, refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the concert.
Earlier that week, on Shrove Tuesday MARCH 5th, our regular Pancake Celebration will take place in the Village Hall, opening at 11.00am, and running until 4.00pm. A range of toppings will be available as well as the usual hot drinks and cake; there will be a cake stall and a raffle,so if you could donate to either or both those stalls, please let me know. I can arrange collection if required: 01263 577794. I do hope you see many of you there.
Finally in Marchwe are so pleased to have a school concert at All Saints Gresham on Wednesday 27th. Beeston Hall school choir and musicians will be performing a range of music for us and, of course, we will welcome many parents of the performers. However, we hope to see many of our regular supporters too. Refreshments will be served at the end and there will be no charge, although donations are always welcome.
Meanwhile, I hope that February brings more sunny days and not too much cold weather. Keep warm!
