Friends’ newsletter May 2019
I was able to have a good discussion with our Heritage Lottery Fund advisor before Easter. She then emailed a summary of the points we covered and included an encouraging statement to conclude:
“In summary, there is potential here for an award and I am encouraging you to develop your proposal, bearing in mind my feedback.”
So we must spend the next two or three months working up a new bid. We now aim for a mid-August deadline.
Our April Coffee Morning, hosted by Ros at her home, was busy and productive. People mingled and chatted throughout the ground floor rooms and it was really relaxing. Thank you all who came to enjoy the coffee/tea and cake (great selection), to linger over the bric a brac, including some lovely plants, buy Tombola tickets and /or a home-made cake. A big thank you too, goes to those who contributed cakes, bric a brac, tombola prizes or plants and of course to Ros for her hospitality. We made £280.00.
On the previous Wednesday evening, I accepted an invitation to a Village Hall Committee meeting to inform them of our aims and activities. Next Wednesday, on May 8th, I shall again be at the Village Hall, for the Annual Parish Meeting, hosted by the Parish Council, to update them and all villagers attending about our work and progress. This is an annual event and is open to all residents of Gresham. There will be input too, from the Village Hall Committee, the Methodist Chapel and the School. Do come along to listen and ask questions of any of the speakers that evening: it is an opportunity for us all to get to know more about the work of all village organisations: 7.00pm on May 8 at the Village Hall.
This month we have the Village Picnic on the Park on Sunday 19thMay. There will be refreshments on sale from the Pavilion, but you will need to bring your own main picnic. There will be a raffle and games equipment available to borrow, or bring your own! It is another chance for villagers to get together; hopefully the weather will be as good as last year when we enjoyed a glorious day.
On June 21st, we shall have a stall at the Village School Summer Fayre, so do come along and see us there.
The Classic Vehicle Show and Fair will take place on 20 July with doors opening at 11.00am. We hope all Classic cars will have arrived by 12.30. Judging for the Best Turned Out vehicle will take place between 1.00 and 2.00pm and our ukulele band will play both at 2.15pm and 3.30pm. There will other stalls, a raffle, and items of interest on the Park as well as a Children’s Corner with games.
As ever, we would be grateful for anyone’s help during that busy day. We would also welcome donations of raffle prizes (please ask local businesses that you support) and anything “Made in Gresham” which will be the theme of our stall at the Fair. Collection can be arranged if required, ring me on 01263 577794, answer phone available. Obviously all proceeds will go towards the urgently needed repair of our lovely church in Gresham.
I hope to see you all in May and/or July.
Julia D, Chair The Friends of All Saints Gresham.
