September 2019 Newsletter
The Bid was safely submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund on August 15th when Helen and I breathed a great sigh of relief! My relief was short lived as the architect’s secretary discovered the day before the August 20th final deadline that one of our attachments was faulty; there followed an uncomfortable few hours as we tried between us to rectify the problem, assisted by the IT specialist in the firm. An accurate, readable, version was sent off post haste that evening. And now we wait, probably until the end of November for a decision.
Another momentous day for our group of churches was August 31st when the Rector, David Head, retired. David had led the five parishes for over five years and provided stability during that time. He welcomed the relaunch of the Friends and has been a loyal supporter of our fundraising events, as well as providing help with the bid. I sent a card on behalf of us all to wish him well.
Ruth Adamson, another very dedicated Friends’ supporter, has been appointed Interim Priest in Charge of the Quintet benefice. She will be licensed by Bishop Jonathan on Thursday 26 September at 7.30pm at All Saints Beeston Regis. All the Friends and the whole village is invited. There will be refreshments after the service. I shall certainly attend and I hope many of you would like to do so, too.
Meanwhile, we have a variety of concerts this autumn in our fundraising programme:
28 September (Saturday): 7.30pm All Saints Gresham : Tale Dolce Musica return for what will be another wonderful evening of Baroque music. Anyone who enjoyed them on their last visit to Gresham will, I am sure, recommend this.
Tickets £10.00 to include refreshments. Book with Julia : 01263 577794, or Helen 01263 577849
26 October (Saturday): 7.30pm All Saints Gresham : Sheringham Shantymen will perform a trademark concert, so popular in this area and beyond. They have been performing songs of the sea and, over the last thirty years, have entertained audiences all over this country and abroad, raising thousands of pounds for charity in the process. They support the RNLI in particular, but at this October gig, they will be performing in aid of the repair and restoration of All Saints Church Gresham.
Tickets £10.00 to include refreshments. Book with Julia : 01263 577794 or Helen : 01263 577849 and don’t leave it too late as our church has limited capacity compared with many of the Shantymen’s usual venues!
9 November (Saturday): 7.30pn All Saints Gresham: Songs of Courage and Good Cheer – performed by a local choir led by Natasha Hood.
This is becoming a popular local autumn event at All Saints. There will be no tickets. Refreshments will be provided and we will be grateful for any donations those listening care to make. Do come for an enjoyable evening.
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Julia Drury, Chair.
