October Newsletter

Dear All

The builders’ work at All Saints is drawing to an end, so I am happy to let you know that the church will reopen from Monday October 18th 2021. There will be an Open Week with the church ready to receive visitors and volunteers available to point out and explain the many improvements made.

The Open days will run between 10.00am and noon and 2.30pm and 4.30 pm daily- 18th and 19th, and 21stand 22nd-but excluding Wednesday 20th October. Free refreshments will be on offer. We do hope many of you will visit that week to see our refreshed and watertight church.

On Wednesday 20th October we will be expressing our thanks and appreciation to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for providing the grant enabling us to secure the church for current and future generations. So, we invite all of you who are Lottery players to a Cheese and Wine evening at the church, 6.30-8.30pm, on Wednesday 20th October. Do come and join us, especially if you are unable to get to one of the Open Days.

The week will conclude with a Celebration Service on Sunday 24th October in the early evening. Unfortunately we still have to restrict numbers to keep us all safe, so this event will be by invitation only. Numbers inside the church during Open week, too, will also be limited for safety.

Services will resume on the first Sunday of November, 7th and monthly thereafter, with additional services to mark festivals. Details will be available during Open week.

During the Autumn and Winter we will be running a series of free lectures in the church, loosely associated with church and/or village history. The first will take place on November 3rd (Wednesday) at 7.00pm. The speaker will be one of the leaders of the Paston Footprints project, in role as John Paston; it promises to be an entertaining evening. On November 10th a singing group, The Samphires, will perform a free concert in the church, at 7.30pm. We hope this will be the first of our musical evenings, during the coming months, when the wonderful acoustics of the building will be harnessed. Refreshments will be served after these events.

Best wishes

Julia Drury, Chair,The Friends of All Saints Gresham.
