The Friends, a sub-committee of the Parish Church Council, was set up some years ago but was dormant until relaunched this year to address major concerns about the physical state of All Saints. An Architect’s report revealed serious problems with rainwater dispersal, the chancel roof, some external walls and the need to work on the tower and windows. It was clear that a small church community on its own could not hope to raise the funds needed to undertake all this repair. The Friends was relaunched to include not just the congregation, but also those in the village who love the building and wish to see it preserved for the benefit of future generations.
Our initial aim is to raise sufficient funds, both by applying for grants from charities, such as the Heritage Lottery Fund, and by local fundraising to allow the church to be repaired and restored as necessary. But we also hope, in so doing, to engage the people of Gresham to come together and enjoy the activities. Do let us have any ideas for future fund raising events.
